Lorenzo remains a strong hurricane with very deep convection on the north side of the circulation. It will continue to weaken as it moves over cooler ocean water temperatures.

The Weather Situation
Lorenzo quickly strengthened last night in which NHC said it reached 160 mph. This made it a cat 5 hurricane. It was based on satellite estimates and IMO would not have gone that strong. The hurricane hunters found a wind of 115 mph this afternoon - after the 11 am advisory estimated 145 mph.

Effects of large hurricane Lorenzo will arrive over the Azores tonight into early Wednesday. the most pronounced effects will be over the western Islands.
