Hurricane Don
August 10, 2023
Don formed in the open Atlantic between the Azores and Bermuda in non tropical conditions. It was briefly estimated to be a hurricane as an open center of circulation developed. Despite this, it is
possible that Don was overestimated in wind speed. No damage or casualties were associated with Don.

Hurricane Idalia
August 29, 2023
Idalia formed near the Yucatan channel and moved north across the eastern Gulf of Mexico, making landfall over the Big Bend of Florida. It moved off of the Southeastern U.S. coast and slightly rejuvenated
before becoming extratropical as it past Bermuda.
Idalia strenghtened to 115 kts in the northeast Gulf of Mexico, then weakened before landfall on the Big Bend. It was the third strongest hurricane since the 1800's
to affect the region. The estimate of winds at landfall were around 100 kts, but this is somewhat in question as it was undergoing an eyewall replacement cycle. The highest recorded wind was at Perry, Florida during landfall of 74 kts.
