Tuesday Morning Recap

Arlene Recap
Arlene was designated as a tropical depression on the first day of the Atlantic hurricane season in the Gulf of Mexico. It was upgraded the next day by NHC as winds near tropical storm force were reported by reconnaissance aircraft. IMO, despite having a well defined low level circulation, this tropical cyclone should have not been classified as a tropical storm. Convection was marginal as the circulation battled wind shear. Arlene was downgraded the following day, less than 24 hours after being classified as a storm. This system also followed a very irregular path moving from the central to SE Gulf, indicative of an early season system.
