Monday Evening Update

Harvey continues to bring disastrous flooding


The Weather Situation
Harvey continues to bring heavy rainfall to SE Texas with Houston and a large area in the vicinity being inundated. Dayton, TX measured nearly 40" earlier today and Harvey is closing in on all time state records for rainfall.


Current Tropical Weather
As of 4:00 PM CDT Tropical Storm Harvey was centered at 28.5 N / 95.7 W or 45 miles east of Port OConnor, Texas. It was moving ESE at 3 mph. Top sustained winds are estimated at 45 mph. Pressure was estimated at 997 MB.

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Harvey is meandering near the upper Texas coast. It will slowly move NE before dissipating late this week.

Tuesday Afternoon Update

Harvey may become all time greatest U.S. tropical rainfall producer


The Weather Situation
Harvey is offshore in the Gulf, SE of Houston. Rainfall totals are now approaching 50". Widespread catastrophic flooding is occurring across SE Texas and parts of SW Louisiana. The Texas tropical rainfall record has been broken previously set by Amelia in 1978 in Medina.


Current Tropical Weather
As of 2:00 PM CDT Tropical Storm Harvey was centered at 28.8 N / 94.3 W or 95 miles SW of Cameron, Louisiana. It was moving NNE at 5 mph. Top sustained winds are estimated at 45 mph. Pressure was estimated at 997 MB.

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Harvey will make landfall tonight in SW Louisiana. It will then move NE toward Arkansas as it weakens the next few days.

Wednesday Afternoon Update

Harvey inland in Louisiana


The Weather Situation
Harvey made landfall before 4 AM CDT this morning just west of Cameron, Louisiana. It has become the largest rainfall producer from a tropical cyclone. The number of fatalities, tornadoes and cost will take many days to calculate. Harvey will likely be the costliest hurricane in U.S. history.

Current Tropical Weather
As of 12:00 PM CDT Tropical Storm Harvey was centered at 30.5 N / 93.3 W or 40 miles NNW of Lake Charles, Louisiana. It was moving NNE at 8 mph. Top sustained winds are estimated at 45 mph. Pressure was estimated at 993 MB.

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Harvey will continue across western Tennessee and become extratropical over the Ohio Valley the next few days.
