Dora passed well south of the Hawaiian Islands - 500 miles south of the southern most point of the Big Island (Hawaii). Contrary to what media is announcing, the direct winds from Dora did not increase the fires on Maui. It was the pressure gradient created between Dora's low pressure and high pressure to the north. In reality, this is splitting hairs as winds did cause the rapid spread of the devastating fires.
