Sunday Morning Update

Grace in the eastern Caribbean

The Weather Situation
The quick motion of Grace to the west has kept it from organizing. Satellite imagery shows very deep convection with Grace which can produce heavy rainfall.

Current tropical weather
As of 8:00 AM AST Tropical Storm Grace was centered at 17.1 N / 65.4 W or about 100 miles SE of San Juan, Puerto Rico. It was moving WNW at 16 mph. Officially top sustained winds are estimated at 40 mph. Pressure was estimated at 1010 hPa (mb).

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Forecasts models have been very erratic with the long term forecast of Grace. As of now it appears, Grace will affect the northern Antilles then move into the southern or central Gulf of Mexico several days from now.

Sunday Afternoon Update

Grace heading toward the northern Antilles

The Weather Situation
The circulation center of Grace has weakened and the system is now a depression. Heavy rainfall will be the main threat across the northern Antilles for the next several days.

Current tropical weather
As of 5:00 PM AST Tropical Depression Grace was centered at 17.0 N / 67.3 W or about 345 miles ESE of Port Au Prince, Haiti. It was moving west at 15 mph. Officially top sustained winds are estimated at 40 mph. Pressure was estimated at 1011 hPa (mb).

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Grace will affect the northern Antilles then move into the southern Gulf of Mexico several days from now.

Monday Afternoon Update

Grace to become a storm again

The Weather Situation
Grace is near southern Haiti and will become a tropical storm again as it moves west, north of Jamaica. At this time heavy rainfall is the primary threat.

Current tropical weather
As of 11:00 AM EDT Tropical Depression Grace was centered at 17.7 N / 71.4 W or about 85 miles SE of Port Au Prince, Haiti. It was moving west at 15 mph. Officially top sustained winds are estimated at 35 mph. Pressure was estimated at 1007 hPa (mb).

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Grace will affect the northern Antilles then move into the southern Gulf of Mexico / northern Bay of Campeche in a few days. It will then move toward north eastern Mexico.

Tuesday Evening Update

Grace to threaten the Yucatan

The Weather Situation
Grace is pulling away from Jamaica with Kingston recently seeing a gust to 54 mph. IR satellite imagery showers very heavy rainfall currently over Jamaica.

Current tropical weather
As of 5:00 PM EDT Tropical Storm Grace was centered at 18.4 N / 77.9 W or about 5 miles south of Montego Bay, Jamaica, 225 miles ESE of Grand Cayman. It was moving west at 15 mph. Officially top sustained winds are estimated at 50 mph. Pressure was estimated at 1003 hPa (mb).

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Grace will become a hurricane before making landfall on the Yucatan weaken then restrengthen before a second landfall on the northeastern Mexican coast.

Wednesday Evening Update

Grace to threaten the Yucatan

The Weather Situation
Grace has an improved appearance on visible satellite imagery, but IR reveals only sporadic deep convection near the eye. It is good news as the threat of rapid deepening is lessened before landfall. Grand Cayman is seeing rainfall well to the east in an outer band.

Current tropical weather
As of 5:00 PM EDT Hurricane Grace was centered at 19.7 N / 83.7 W or about 250 miles east of Tulim, Mexico. It was moving WNW at 16 mph. Officially top sustained winds are estimated at 80 mph. Pressure was estimated at 992 hPa (mb).

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Grace will make landfall near Cozumel by tomorrow morning, move across the Yucatan, then restrengthen before a second landfall on the northeastern Mexican coast later Friday evening.

Thursday Evening Update

Grace into the Bay of Campeche

The Weather Situation
Much of the deep convection with Grace has dissipated after the circulation crossed the Yucatan peninsula. Convection should rapidly develop as it is now back over water. Restrengthening to hurricane strength is likely before a second landfall tomorrow.

Current tropical weather
As of 7:00 PM CDT Tropical Storm Grace was centered at 20.7 N / 91.0 W or about 65 miles NNW of Campeche, Mexico. It was moving west at 15 mph. Officially top sustained winds are estimated at 60 mph. Pressure was estimated at 995 hPa (mb).

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Grace will make its second landfall Friday night on the Mexican coast on the west side of the Bay of Campeche.
