Friday Morning Update

Wind shear continues

The Weather Situation
Josephine continues to fight wind shear despite having some impressive bursts of convection. This has been the story of the whole life cycle of Josephine even before it was classifed as a tropical cyclone.

Current tropical weather
As of 5:00 AM EDT Tropical Storm Josephine was centered at 15.3 N / 53.3 W or about 680 miles ESE of the Leeward Islands. It was moving WNW 17 mph. Officially top sustained winds are estimated at 40 mph. Pressure was estimated at 1006 hPa (mb).

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Josephine will move NE of St. Martin / St. Maarten in the northeastern Leewards on Saturday. It will face increasing wind shear and weaken as it changes course to the northwest.

Friday Evening Update

Little change in structure

The Weather Situation
There has been little change in Josephine today. There continues to be a deep burst of convection, but wind shear continues. Outflow aloft looks good to the north, but signs of SW / southerly shear remain.

Current tropical weather
As of 5:00 PM AST Tropical Storm Josephine was centered at 17.8 N / 56.1 W or about 460 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands. It was moving WNW 16 mph. Officially top sustained winds are estimated at 40 mph. Pressure was estimated at 1006 hPa (mb).

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Josephine will move NE of St. Martin / St. Maarten in the northeastern Leewards on Saturday. It will face increasing wind shear and weaken as it changes course to the northwest. It appears that most of the effects will stay north of the northern Leewards. Some rough surf and perhaps a rainband will be encountered.

Saturday Morning Update

Josephine staying north of the Leewards

The Weather Situation
The anticipated southwesterly shear has developed. Outflow looks good to the north, but is restricted on the south side of the circulation from upper air winds. Josephine will be passing north of the Leewards today.

As of 5:00 AM AST Tropical Storm Josephine was centered at 18.9 N / 58.4 W or about 310 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands. It was moving WNW 15 mph. Officially top sustained winds are estimated at 45 mph. Pressure was estimated at 1005 hPa (mb).

Josephine will move NE of St. Martin / St. Maarten in the northeastern Leewards today. It will face increasing wind shear and weaken as it changes course to the northwest. It appears that most of the effects will stay north of the northern Leewards. Some rough surf and perhaps a rainband will be encountered.
