Sunday Evening Update

Moving out

The Weather Situation
TD 5 is accelerating to the NE and is badly sheared. With that being said, there is a large area of deep convection on the eastern side of the circulation. I am somewhat surprised that TD 5 was not upgraded to a minimal tropical storm.

Monday Morning Update

Becoming Extratropical

The Weather Situation
Edouard was upgraded to tropical storm strength at 11 pm last night. I tweeted that this was likely a few hours before the update. Deep convection burst on the east side of the circulation last night, enough to be upgraded. Satellite imagery now shows a more extratropical look as it moves over colder water.

Current tropical weather
As of 5:00 AM AST Edouard was centered at 39.0 N / 53.6 W or 530 miles south of Cape Race, Newfoundland. It was moving NE at 36 mph. Officially top sustained winds are estimated at 40 mph. Pressure was estimated at 1008 hPa (mb).

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Edouard will become extratropical by late today. The only concern is now to shipping.
