Wednesday Morning Update

Nicole in the open Atlantic

The Weather Situation
Tropical Storm Nicole remains well to the SSE of Bermuda. It is being sheared from northwesterly winds aloft - from hurricane Matthew to its southwest. Deep convection remains on the southeast side of the center of circulation with the low center somewhat exposed.

Current Tropical Weather
As of 5 AM EDT Tropical Storm Nicole was centered at 24.3N / 61.8 W or 490 miles NNE of San Juan, Puerto Rico. It was moving WNW at 6 mph. Top sustained winds are estimated at 50 mph. Pressure was estimated at 1005 mb.

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Tropical Storm Nicole will begin moving moving northward around the western edge of a ridge of high pressure. Winds aloft will weaken and Nicole will likely slow well south of Bermuda. Nicole doesn't appear to be a threat to land at this time. Interests on Bermuda still should follow the track for any possible changes.

Thursday Evening Update

Nicole now a hurricane

The Weather Situation
Wind shear has weakened enough to allow for some strengthening today. Outflow has improved and Nicole is now a minimal hurricane.

Current Tropical Weather
As of 5 PM EDT Hurricane Nicole was centered at 27.5 N / 61.5 W or 330 miles south of Bermuda. It was moving NNW at 7 mph. Top sustained winds are estimated at 80 mph. Pressure was estimated at 982 mb.

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Hurricane Nicole will remain in an area of weak steering currents. Interests on Bermuda still should follow the track for any possible changes.

Friday Evening Update

Nicole weakens

The Weather Situation
Nicole went through a brief period of rapid strengthening yesterday. It briefly became a category two hurricane. Wind shear has picked up again today the the northern portion of the tropical storm is exposed.

Current Tropical Weather
As of 5 PM EDT Tropical Storm Nicole was centered at 27.0 N / 65.2 W or 365 miles south of Bermuda. It was moving south at 5 mph. Top sustained winds are estimated at 65 mph. Pressure was estimated at 994 mb.

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Hurricane Nicole will remain in an area of weak steering currents. Interests on Bermuda still should follow the track for any possible changes.

Saturday Evening Update

Nicole drifting

The Weather Situation
Nicole has been sheared and remains weak.

Current Tropical Weather
As of 5 PM EDT Tropical Storm Nicole was centered at 24.8 N / 65.8 W or 520 miles south of Bermuda. It was moving SSW at 6 mph. Top sustained winds are estimated at 50 mph. Pressure was estimated at 999 mb.

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Tropical Storm Nicole will begin to move northward as a trough picks it up. Nicole may be in the vicinity of Bermuda Wednesday night. Interests on Bermuda still should follow the track for any possible changes.

Monday Evening Update

Nicole strengthens

The Weather Situation
Wind shear has relaxed around Nicole allowing it to become a hurricane today. Hurricane conditions may be experienced on Bermuda by late Wednesday night into Thursday.

Current Tropical Weather
As of 5 PM EDT Hurricane Nicole was centered at 27.4 N / 66.4 W or 350 miles SSW of Bermuda. It was moving NW at 5 mph. Top sustained winds are estimated at 80 mph. Pressure was estimated at 980 mb.

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Hurricane Nicole will begin to move more northerly then northeasterly and accelerate during the next couple of days. This will take it close to Bermuda by Thursday. Interests on Bermuda should continue to monitor the progress of Nicole.

Wednesday Midday Update

Nicole heading toward Bermuda

The Weather Situation
Nicole has a 30 mile wide eye as it strengthens. Heavy rainfall, strong winds and high surf will affect Bermuda later today through Thursday.

Current Tropical Weather
As of 11 AM EDT Hurricane Nicole was centered at 28.4 N / 66.9 W or 295 miles SSW of Bermuda. It was moving north at 7 mph. Top sustained winds are estimated at 100 mph. Pressure was estimated at 969 mb.

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Nicole will move near Bermuda by Thursday midday. Wind shear will increase after passing Bermuda allowing for weakening. Interests on Bermuda should continue to monitor the progress of Nicole.

Thursday Morning Update

Nicole about to pass over Bermuda

The Weather Situation
Nicole is moving on a path that will take the eye barely over Bermuda with the center passing east. Winds will soon be over hurricane force. Winds are now gusting to 63 mph in Hamilton. High winds, very heavy rainfall, high surf will be the strongest during the next six hours.

Current Tropical Weather
As of 8 AM EDT Hurricane Nicole was centered at 31.6 N / 65.2 W or 55 miles SSW of Bermuda. It was moving NNE at 15 mph. Top sustained winds are estimated at 125 mph. Pressure was estimated at 953 mb.

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Nicole will move over Bermuda in a few hours then begin to weaken and become extratropical over the next few days.
