The rig that exploded south of Louisiana is seeping thousands of gallons of oil. This could be a big problem for the ecosystem of the coastal gulf states.

I heard that is it leaking 42,000 gallons of oil a day. That can't be good for the ecosystem.

They are going to try to set it on fire. Can't wait to see what that looks like.

I was watching the news, and they said it may be weeks or months to get it stopped. What a disaster!

I wonder how this will impact the economy. Shrimp, fishing, tourism....the list goes on. This is the enviromental disaster that people have warned about for so long.

It's interesting to see the president making it very clear that it's BP's fault and that they're going to pay for it. He doesn't want this to be a hurricane Katrina for him.

They said that it was bottled up with ice crystals. ! Who would have thought at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico. Water temperatures can be actually quite cold in deep water. I assume that this also was caused by the high pressure of liquid too.

Exactly. BP was the only one who really stepped up to the plate when this first happened. They publicly took responsibility of the mess and started cleanup efforts. Not to mention BP doesn't even own the rig, but contracts the company that does. I am sure the government will find a way to slap a huge fine on these guys and point out all the wrong doing they did.

I like the way you think. Not enough people take responsibility for their actions. The commander and chief needs to step up to the plate, not do image control.

the oil flow was stopped today. BP's stock has risen several dollars after dropping down to about $30. It's now almost back up to $40

Apparently the oil is gone from the surface of the Gulf. That means that a bunch of oil is now sinking to the bottom of the Gulf or is now suspended in the waters of the Gulf and currents will eventually circulate soem of it out of the Gulf. How can a price be put on this disaster? :(

Who knows how this is going to pan out? How can they skim the oil, if the oil can't be seen?

I read that that dumped some mud and cement junk today and finally stopped it up. It don't buy the "oil evaporated" statements though. Oil doesn't evaporate. It's probably still lurking under the surface.
