Nana

Monday Early Morning Update
Nana classified, will not last long

We have been watching a tropical wave in the open Atlantic for a few days now. Certainly this one could have been classified 24 hours ago. The Hurricane Center named Nana a few hours ago. Top sustained winds are minimal tropical storm force - 40 mph. Westerly wind shear is keep all convection on the east side of the circulation. There is actually a heavy burst of storms on that side. Some of the wind gusts may be near 50 mph under the storms.

As of 11:15 pm ast (edt) Nana is centered at 16.7 N / 38.7 W or about 1400 miles east of the Lesser Antillies / 1950 miles southeast of Bermuda. It is a long ways from any land mass and is not likely to affect any. It is moving west at 10 mph and should turn more wnw soon.

Forecast models move it northwest into the open Atlantic and dissipate it soon. Nana will have a short life span.

Monday Late Morning Update
Nana very weak

Tropical Storm Nana is centered near 16.7 N / 39.6 W or about 1350 miles east of the Lesser Antillies. The surface low is dissipating with deep convection to the east decoupling from the system. Nana should be at least a tropical depression on NHC's next advisory. There may be some gusts near 40 mph in the convection to the east. This should be our last advisory, but we'll keep updating Nana as long as NHC has it classified as a tropical storm.
