Friday Morning Update

Norma strengthening some

The Weather Situation
Norma is showing deep convection around the center of circulation. A few rain bands are just offshore of the western Mexican coast.


Current Tropical Weather
As of 3 AM MDT Tropical Storm Norma was centered at 18.6 N / 109.7 W or 295 miles south of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. It was moving north at 2 mph. Top sustained winds are estimated at 50 mph. Pressure was estimated at 1000 mb.


Tropical Weather Forecast:
Norma is forecast to slowly move northward during the next few days. It will likely pass just west of Cabo San Lucas Sunday Night as a hurricane and slowly weaken as it makes landfall on the SW coast of the southern Baja.

Saturday Morning Update

Norma stalled

The Weather Situation
Norma has briefly stalled south of Cabo San Lucas. One rain band is close by with the heaviest convection west and north the of the center of circulation. Rainfall should increase over Baja California Sur as Norma approaches.

Current Tropical Weather
As of 6 AM MDT Hurricane Norma was centered at 19.1 N / 110.1 W or 260 miles south of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. It was stationary. Top sustained winds are estimated at 75 mph. Pressure was estimated at 987 mb.

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Norma is forecast to slowly move northward during the next few days. It will likely pass just west of Cabo San Lucas Sunday Night as a hurricane and slowly weaken as it nears landfall on the SW coast of the southern Baja. It is possible it may become extratropical before landfall.

Sunday Morning Update

Norma weakening

The Weather Situation
Norma has moved farther west than forecast models predicted. This has allowed further weakening. It will now stay west of Baja California Sur. High surf / some rain bands will be the only effects.

Current Tropical Weather
As of 6 AM MDT tropical storm Norma was centered at 20.7 N / 110.5 W or 155 miles WSW of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. It was moving NNW at 5 mph. Top sustained winds are estimated at 45 mph. Pressure was estimated at 1002 mb.

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Norma will continue NNW and stay west of Baja California as it weakens the next few days.
