Dexter sheared badly

Satellite imagery this morning shows Dexter continuing to be badly sheared. Deep convection is noted on the far eastern quadrant, but most of the low level circulation is comprised of low clouds. Yesterday (second image below) smoke from wildfires in noted at the top of the image. The US coast is seen well to the west.

Wednesday Morning Update

Dexter almost extratropical

Satellite imagery this morning indicates a slow transition of Dexter to an extratropical cyclone. Dexter remains sheared with deep convection holding on east of the low center. Smoke from wildfires continues to be widespread north and west of the low. Also of note, the appearance of the low cloud structure with strato-cumulus becoming more dominant from the low passing over colder water.

Dexter extratropical

Dexter was still classified as a tropical storm at 5am AST, but satellite imagery show that the transition is complete. The strongest winds are no longer near the center and energy is increasing with the tapping in of wind energy aloft instead of convection near the core.
