Lee is forecast to move north of the Leewards and stay east of the Bahamas. In the longer range it is forecast between Bermuda the the US east coast then near Nova Scotia in about 10 days. Keep in mind that the track will change and long range forecasts are for general guidance.

Lee was a category 5 hurricane overnight at 165 mph as it went through a rapid deepening cycle. It is now back to category 4 as that cycle has passed.

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Lee continues to move to the north of the Leeward Islands. The core of the hurricane will be missed, by some bands are likely to affect the region. Lee continues to be forecast to the east of the Bahamas and well east of the SE US coast. Early next week high surf will be arriving on the SE and Mid-Atlanic coasts. Forecast tracks also take Lee west of Bermuda, but some effects are expected. The Northeast US and Atlantic SE Canada also need to monitor Lee for effects later next week.

Air force reconnaissance has indicated that the wind field of Lee is expanding. Because of this, Bermuda will likely see tropical storm conditions Thursday into Thursday night.

Lee will continue northward and make landfall possibly from Downeast Maine to the western half of Nova Scotia on Saturday. The effects to the US Mid-Atlantic and Southeast coasts will be high surf causing dangerous riptides and beach erosion. In addition to this, the Northeast US coast to Nova Scotia will see gusty winds and heavy rainfall especially over Downeast Maine to Nova Scotia.

Lee will pass well to the west of Bermuda tonight. Rainbands and tropical storm force winds can be expected. Friday night into Saturday morning Cape Cod will also see some gusty winds, rainbands and storm surge from 1-4 feet. Lee is forecast to make landfall on the western tip of Nova Scotia Saturday afternoon with effects continuing into Sunday.

Lee will be making landfall shortly on the western tip of Nova Scotia. Landfall time is not as important with an extratropical cyclone as the wind field spreads. The strongest winds are no longer found around the center, but spread farther away.
