Monday Morning Update

TD 27 classified

The Weather Situation
TD 27 is most likely a tropical storm. Wind shear from the south has picked up over the past few hours and has exposed the low level center. Extensive deep convection is north and east of the low center.

Current tropical weather
As of 8:00 AM AST TD 27 was centered at 25.8 N / 55.5 W or about 720 miles SE of Bermuda. It was stationary. Officially top sustained winds are estimated at 35 mph. Pressure was estimated at 1003 hPa (mb).

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Td 27 (Epsilon) will move northwest under less shear and strengthen. It will likely reach hurricane strength before reaching the vicinity of Bermuda by Friday.

Tuesday Late Morning Update

Epsilon organizing

The Weather Situation
Epsilon was classified yesterday as expected. It still has some subtropical features such as a frontal shape, but it is looking more tropical today. A CDO is enlarging as wind shear relaxes.

Current tropical weather
As of 11:00 AM AST Epsilon was centered at 26.5 N / 55.0 W or about 710 miles ESE of Bermuda. It was moving NNW at 8 mph. Officially top sustained winds are estimated at 50 mph. Pressure was estimated at 998 hPa (mb).

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Epsilon will move northwest under less shear and strengthen. It will likely reach hurricane strength before reaching the vicinity of Bermuda by late Thursday / early Friday. Models keep Epsilon to the east of Bermuda.

Wednesday Afternoon Update

Epsilon rapidly strengthens

The Weather Situation
Epsilon was upgraded to a hurricane last night. It has a small CDO and has rapidly strengthened. Its total circulation is rather large.

Current tropical weather
As of 2:00 PM AST Epsilon was centered at 24.9 N / 59.7 W or about 365 miles ESE of Bermuda. It was moving WNW at 9 mph. Officially top sustained winds are estimated at 110 mph. Pressure was estimated at 959 hPa (mb).

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Epsilon will move northwest to east of Bermuda by Thursday evening. Tropical storm conditions are possible as it passes east.

Epsilon weaker

Epsilon is weakening. The CDO remains small and cloud tops have warmed indicating significant weakening.

As of 11:00 AM AST Epsilon was centered at 30.9 N / 61.2 W or about 235 miles ESE of Bermuda. It was moving NW at 7 mph. Officially top sustained winds are estimated at 90 mph. Pressure was estimated at 965 hPa (mb).

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Epsilon will move east of Bermuda by this evening. Tropical storm conditions are possible as it passes.

Thursday Evening Update

Epsilon passing well east of Bermuda

The Weather Situation
The small center of Epsilon is well east of Bermuda. Another band of heavy showers and gusty winds is ENE of Bermuda. Bermuda is currently reporting winds to 31 mph with gusts to 52 mph.

Current tropical weather
As of 8:00 PM AST Epsilon was centered at 32.2 N / 61.5 W or about 195 miles east of Bermuda. It was moving NNW at 9 mph. Officially top sustained winds are estimated at 85 mph. Pressure was estimated at 968 hPa (mb).

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Epsilon will soon be moving away from Bermuda. It will turn more northeast Saturday into the northern North Atlantic Ocean south of Newfoundland.
