Global warming
This isn't exactly TV weather, but this winter has been pretty brutal with cold outbreaks, snow and ice. I thought it was funny to see Al Gore explaining exactly why this fit into what was expected for global warming. At the end of the article there was a comment by, I believe a news director commenting on how the meteorologists were telling us they we were heading into a new ice age in the late 70's.

Re: Global warming
I know folks like Joe **** (his name is being blocked by the forum)have been forecasting global temps to fall and go below normal but I certainly haven't heard anyone say we are heading into a new ice age.
Take a look at the PDO though. It is certainly possible we could be entering a cooler regime. Al Gore is just huffing and puffing to try and earn some more money. I cant stand what he has become. I had *some* respect for the man when he left office but that quickly ended when he started his global warming junk.

Thanks Martin, that's a cool graph. It was funny how you said the forum is blocking his name.

Re: Global warming
It looks like the warm and cold cycles last about 25 years. it will be interesting to see if this is actually the case. The past few winters certainly have been colder and snowier.

Re: Global warming
Rich passed along a comment about the hurricane conference in Atlanta. He said that Dr. Gray totally slammed hurricanes and any connection to global warming.

Re: Global warming
Dr. Gray gave about a 20 minute talk on how global warming is not connected to hurricane intensity / number increases. He is VERY passionate about this. I can remember discussing the topic of hurricane cycles with John Hope back in the 80's or early 90's when we were in a lull. We knew back then that an upswing was about to start.

Re: Global warming
Apparently an article came out of Oregon St. University claiming that there is mounting evidence against global warming. Has anyone else seen this too?

Re: Global warming
That article stated that any global warming would be much less than what has been predicted by the "experts". After studying ice cores from Antarcticia is showed that co2 played less of a role on temperature increase than previously expected. The most likely amount of warming would be 3-6 degrees instead of 4-8 degrees with a possibility up to 18 degrees!

I wonder what they're thinking for this winter. So far no cold air in sight (again) and I heard that the polar ice is way below normal.

A warm Christmas for the eastern U.S.! I like mild weather, but I'm sick of this!

Re: Global warming
I looked at the chart posted earlier by Martin. It sure looks like there will be a very long red bar for this winter.
