Maria weakening

The Weather Situation
Although Maria is weakening, because it is a large hurricane, it is producing large swell. Tropical storm force winds and storm surge to 2-4 feet may affect the outer banks of North Carolina.

Current Tropical Weather
As of 11:00 AM AST Hurricane Maria was centered at 31.2 N / 72.9 W or 315 miles SSE of Cape Hatteras, NC. It was moving north at 7 mph. Top sustained winds are estimated at 80 mph. Pressure was estimated at 963 MB.

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Maria will bring rough surf, gusty winds and rain bands to eastern NC Tuesday into early Thursday. Rough surf will also affects areas on the Southeast and Mid Atlantic coasts.

Tuesday Morning Update

Maria bringing rough surf to eastern US coast

The Weather Situation
Maria continues to deteriorate but has generated large swell over the past several days. Rough surf will continue to affect the US coast. A rainband is now close to Cape Hatteras.

Current Tropical Weather
As of 8:00 AM EDT Hurricane Maria was centered at 33.3 N / 73.1 W or 190 miles SE of Cape Hatteras, NC. It was moving north at 7 mph. Top sustained winds are estimated at 75 mph. Pressure was estimated at 970 MB.

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Maria will bring rough surf, gusty winds and rain bands to eastern NC today into early Thursday. Rough surf will also affects areas on the Southeast and Mid Atlantic coasts.

Maria will start turning out to sea

The Weather Situation
Maria is slowly weakening and no longer is bringing rain to the eastern coast of North Carolina. Surf will gradually calm down over the next few days.

Current Tropical Weather
As of 5:00 AM EDT Tropical Storm Maria was centered at 35.1 N / 72.9 W or 145 miles east of Cape Hatteras, NC. It was moving north at 5 mph. Top sustained winds are estimated at 70 mph. Pressure was estimated at 976 MB.

Tropical Weather Forecast:
Maria is slowing and is about to turn NE away from the U.S. coast by later today and tomorrow.

Maria becoming extratropical

The Weather Situation
Maria is now only a concern to shipping in the north Atlantic. Surf will be calming down on the eastern U.S. coast.

Current Tropical Weather
As of 5:00 PM AST Maria was centered at 37.8 N / 57.4 W or 570 miles SE Halifax, Nova Scotia. It was moving ENE at 31 mph. Top sustained winds are estimated at 60 mph. Pressure was estimated at 988 MB.
