Wednesday Afternoon Update

Greg pulling away from Mexico

Greg is moving away from southwest Mexico with heavy rainbands near the coast. The circulation is organizing as rainbands form around the central dense overcast. It is likely that Greg will become a hurricane by later tonight. Outflow aloft looks favorable for significant additional strengthening.

As of 1 pm edt / 10 am pdt Greg was centered near 16.9 N / 105.3 W or about 160 miles southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico. Movement is west northwest at about 21 mph. Top sustained winds are estimated at 60 (NHC 50 mph earlier advisory). Pressure 998 mb.

Forecasts slowly pull Greg away from the southern coast of Mexico and out to sea south of Cabo San Lucas. The only significant threat will be higher than normal swell. Some heavy showers and storms will continue near the southwest coast of Mexico.
