Fay Makes 4th Landfall near Dog Island
The vorticity which moved off of Keaton Beach Friday afternoon was the center of circulation from Fay. As the vorticity approached Wakulla county a much larger circulation took over, centered 50 miles east of Apalachicola. By the next few hours a new vorticity which marked the new center crossed land at Dog Island around 1:30 am edt. Fay should move off of Panama City Beach Saturday and probably make a fifth landfall near Pensacola Sunday. An amazing feat, but not unequaled......
Fays legacy remains it flooding rains. Here is a comparison from a couple of Florida rain record holders....
"Easy 1950 38.70" - Yankeetown
Georges 1998 38.46" - Munson
The forecast track will still take Fay offshore barely Saturday then back in near Pensacola or Destin Sunday for its (hopefully) final landfall. Fay moves west-northwest and loops in western Alabama and eastern Mississippi Sunday - Tuesday. After that it looks like Fay moves across north Georgia. The heaviest rains will shift from northwest Florida into Alabama and Mississippi by Sunday and Monday.
Use extreme caution will driving, roadways may be flooded. A tornado threat continues into tomorrow for parts of South Carolina westward into southern Alabama.
