Snow event coverage
I wanted to mention the extreme nature of the weather coverage. Granted, it seems that some places have picked up a lot of snow this winter. We had a decent snow here in Chattanooga a few weeks ago. I understand the "team coverage" for that. It seems though, even if there is a hint of snow it is treated as though it is a big event. I have some relatives in the Northeast which say the same thing. Any time that snow is in the forecast they have the whole news team out there. Do any of you find this a little over the top too?

Re: Snow event coverage
Media Increases Coverage -> Public Panics -> Stores Benefit -> Media Gets a Story -> Media gets higher ratings
Are you really going to die without bread or milk for several days? Nope. Don't get me wrong in big storms its important to get safety information out to the public but the media loves to go crazy with it. Would you rather hear about how 5 people shot each other overnight or LIVE ACTION SUPER DOPPLER RADAR HIGH DEFINITION TEAM COVERAGE WINTER BLAST 2010 SNOWMAGEDDOM COVERAGE?

Re: Snow event coverage
If it's a major storm I'll take the Godzilla snow coverage. If it's 1/2" of snow "fa get abot it". Here in Atlanta, we get storm coverage for nonsense like this. Your right though, generate the story and they'll come. I think that grocery stores are in some type of secret agreement with TV staions for hyping storms!

Re: Snow event coverage
This time the coverage will be extensive since New York city will be the epicenter. It will not be a hyped storm since this is going to be a biggie!

That storm did turn out to be massive and the coverage actually wasn't overboard. Obviously, the Chili earthquake story deserved the headlines.
