Saturday Early AM Update

Noel's rainbands are just southeast of Long Island and Nantucket

There is little change from the previous discussion. The rain is just offshore of southern New England and will move inland during the morning hours.

New York:
Winds picking up during the morning hours, with the strongest winds during the Saturday afternoon. Some gusts to 40-50 mph. Conditions will deteriorate as you go farther east on Long Island. Look for heavy rain with 1-2" possible. The worst of the conditions will be later Saturday afternoon into the early evening. Winds may gust to near hurricane force at Montauk.

Eastern Massachusettes:
Winds will be at their strongest Saturday afternoon into the evening. Gusts in Boston near 50 mph and 75-85 on the Cape. Winds will start out from the northeast in the morning, north during the afternoon and shift to northwest during the evening. Rain will be heavy with 2-4" with locally higher amounts possible on the Cape. In Boston 1-3" is possible.

Maine:
Winds also shifting from northeast to north to northwest Saturday night. Winds will be stronger in down east Maine with gusts to 75-85 mph. Rainfall totals will range from 1-3".

Landfall still expected on the southern tip of Nova Scotia around midnight Saturday night.

 Remember, powers outages may occur from eastern Long Island, eastern New England, to Nova Scotia. Have resources available!

The next update will be in the late Saturday morning.

:megaphone: Stay out of the waters off of the New England coast today!

NOTE - The last advisory by the National Hurricane Center was at 5 pm EDT Friday.

Saturday Late Morning Update

Noel's rains and winds spreading inland...

The latest radar indicates rain spreading inland to the northwest across southern New England and Long Island. Winds are picking up out of the northeast with gusts 25-45 mph. Nantucket, MA and Block Island, R.I. have the strongest winds at this time.

There is little change to the forecast. Eastern Massachusetts and down east Maine will get the worst of Noel. Cape Cod, Nantucket, and down east Maine will get wind gusts at or somewhat over minimal hurricane force (74 mph).

The forecast portion of Noel is almost over with. We will be "nowcasting" giving the latest conditions on the northeast coast as we follow coastal storm Noel.

:megaphone: Stay out of the waters off of the New England coast today! Be ready for the possibility of power outages, especially on the New England coast!

NOTE - The last advisory by the National Hurricane Center was at 5 pm EDT Friday.

Winds are now gusting to about 60 mph on the islands of southeast Massachusetts, 40-50 mph on eastern Long Island and 35-40 mph near Boston. Rain has now spread across central and eastern Long Island and generally east of the Connecticut valley. Rain is very heavy at times on the Cape, southern Connecticut and southeastern New Hampshire. Look for conditions to deteriorate through the afternoon in eastern New England.

:megaphone: Stay out of the waters off of the New England coast today! Be ready for the possibility of power outages, especially on the New England coast!
